ENGL 201, 202, and 203 Final Exam Essay Question for Goal 3 Assessment
The literary works we have read this semester all reflect the culture or cultures in which they were written. But works of literature may also critique the cultures to which their authors belonged. Select one or more works we have read and analyze the ways in which literature reflects and/or questions aspects of the culture that produced it. You might wish to address two or three texts that deal with a common aspect of culture or reflect on a common topic. You should consider such aspects of culture as:
· Literary Movements
· Politics, systems of government, and major political events
· Religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs and values
· Class structure and economic systems
· Family structure and educational methods
· Gender roles and sexuality
· Constructions of race and ethnicity
Make sure you support your arguments and claims with an analysis of specific examples from your selection or selections.
